What does blood in stools actually look like?

I really want some advise on blood in stools, for the past 2 weeks my stools have been looser than normal, i am 22 weeks pregnant so have put it down to my hormones. However this morning i went to the toilet and when i looked in into the toilet (sorry if this is too much information) my stool appeared to have bright red flecks in, on closer inspection the bright red pieces looked a little like red pepper or tomato skins, i did eat a whole jar of chunky tomatoe pasta sauce last night, now i'm worried that maybe the red bits where blood. So my question is what does blood actually look like when it's in your stools, will the blood just be as it appears when you cut your skin or will the blood be little bits like blood clots?
